Plover Organic: Stylish and Sustainable Bedding
Sheila Mulvihill and Marisa Kula Mercer were disappointed in the bedding options available to shoppers who wanted to go green, so they joined forces to create Plover Organic—a line of eco-friendly stylish and sustainable 100% cotton bedding that is block-printed by hand at a Fair Trade factory in India. Only low-impact, fiber-reactive and hydrogen peroxide bleach are used, and the buttons on the duvets and shams are made from recycled plastic. The collection features nature and geometric inspired graphics in black and white and spring-flavored tones that include soft greenish blue, pale yellow, and grass-colored green. The prints are meant to mix-and-match, and will be updated seasonally.

An L.A. Mart Milestone

The L.A. Mart and L.A. Mart Design Center is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary in a big way. The postwar industrial building in downtown Los Angeles, which houses over 200 design and gift showrooms, has just unveiled a sophisticated new look for its lobby. In revamping the space, Los Angeles designer Christopher Gaona didn’t have to look far for inspiration. He selected furnishings from the building’s Design Center showrooms, including Haptor/Barrett, Filbert & Fig, Lee Jofa and Palecek, to carve out a distinctive central colonnade and two separate lounge areas. Working with classic pieces and organic materials, Gaona created a stylish environment that gives visitors a taste of what they’ll find inside.
Along with the inviting new lobby, the L.A. Mart is marking its anniversary year with an upcoming on-site buyer service for easier consumer access and a new interactive website at www.lamartdesign.com.
